About Erfurt

Erfurt stands out in central Germany for its well-preserved medieval city center, including long stretches of timber-framed buildings and the Krämerbrücke bridge street. The city is the capital of Thuringia and lies on the Gera River with a population just over 200,000. Visitors can comfortably see the main sites in one to two days, focusing on the old town, the Domplatz square with its cathedral and church, and the Krämerbrücke. For green space, Egapark on the city’s western edge offers one of Germany’s largest ornamental gardens. The annual Krämerbrücke Festival in June draws many to the historic heart of Erfurt.
